BIFURCATED HAVEN

THE AIM IS TO DEVELOP A WATERFRONT THAT IS ROBUST,
ADAPTIVE AND RESILIENT. EXTREME ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS ARE INEVITABLE AND WE MUST BE AWARE OF FUTURE UNCERTAINTIES AND PREPARE TO FACE THEM RATHER THAN COLLECT THE DAMAGES LATER. THE URBAN SCHEME IS DESIGNED TO REDUCE AND CONTROL DAMAGES AND TO MAINTAIN ACCESS TO
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND SHELTER AND ENSURE A QUICK RECOVERY.
AFTER THE LAST HURRICANES, THE SENSE OF COMMUNITY GREW MUCH STRONGER IN THE FACE OF THE DISASTER. MY PROPOSAL TRIES TO TAKE SENSE OF THE COMMUNITY TO ANOTHER LEVEL BY PROVIDING SPACE FOR THE
COMMUNITY TO HOLD A CENTRAL ROLE IN OUR DAILY LIFE. BY PROVIDING KIOSKS, SKATE PARKS AND WALKWAYS ON THE WATERFRONT THAT RESPOND TO THE ACTUAL NEEDS OF THE POPULATION. PLUS IN THE EVENT OF A NATURAL DISASTER, THE COMMUNITY WILL BE POSITIONED TO REACT QUICKLY BY PROVIDING SHELTERS AND STORM BREAKERS. THE OVERALL DESIGN AIMS TO BE RESILIENT IN EVERY WAY: BOTH SOCIO-ECONOMICALLY AND PHYSICALLY AND IN ANTICIPATION OF FUTURE EVENTS.

THIS IS THE DEVELOPMENT OF A CHOSEN SITE (WATERFRONT)  OF THE URBAN STRATEGIE FOR RESILIENT BYBLOS 2050. WHERE AN URBAN STUDY HAS BEEN CONDUCTED ON BYBLOS CITY.
OUR STRATEGY IS TO REVIVE THE MEMORY OF THE LOST RIVER THROUGH A PEDESTRIAN AND CYCLING PATH, DENOTED BY WATER TOWERS WHICH WOULD COLLECT RAINWATER AND DISTRIBUTE THEM TO BYBLOS HOUSEHOLD.
EACH TOWER, DEPENDING ON ITS LOCATION HAS TO FULFILL A DIFFERENT FUNCTION, SOME OF THEM ACT AS BRIDGES, LANDMARKS, RESTAURANTS....
THE CHOSEN SITE IS WHERE THE RIVER MEETS THE SEA, IT IS AN ENDPOINT TO OUR PATH. HERE THE PATH TRANSFORMS FROM A LINEAR PROMENADE INTO A BIFURCATED ENTITY WHERE RIVER AND SEA ARE COMBINED.
THE WATER TOWER ACT AS A MICRO-LIBRARY WHERE PEOPLE COULD SIT AND ENJOY A 360-DEGREE VIEW OF THE CITY.
